The tourism and hospitality industry seems exciting – travel, hotels, restaurants. But the hard reality is that many of the jobs for this degree are low-paying, like front desk clerks, servers, event staff.
While there are some higher-level management roles, competition is fierce and opportunities are limited, especially early on. On top of that, the industry is notoriously unstable – hotels and restaurants close all the time.
Many grads end up bouncing around between seasonal jobs at tourist hotspots and struggle to find stable, year-round income. Unless you’re willing to start from the very bottom and grind your way up over many years, this degree is probably not going to lead to lucrative options.
